Charles better known as “Coach Chucky” has been dancing since the age of 13 years old. His technical dance training began at FAMU under the instruction of Dr. Gaynell Sherrod. During his time in Tallahassee, his style of movement was heavily influenced by the various styles and genres of dance in the community as well as by prominent and renowned instructors and choreographers and artistic directors including Allyne D. Gartrell and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar.
Chucky would describe his style of movement as “Rhythmique” – a play on the words of rhythm, technique and unique. It contains strong elements of Horton technique, traditional African dance, and elements of core Hip Hop such as Locking, B-boying, Popping and House footwork. Chucky has been teaching in the Metro Atlanta area for nearly 11 years. According to Chucky, dance provides him with a voice that surpasses what he feels words can achieve and choreography is his prime passion.
The past decade of instruction has increased his love of the educating process and seeing a student’s growth and their excitement at points of achievement is immensely rewarding for Mr. Burney.
